Happenings

I realize it's been a LONG time since I've been on here, so it's high time I post a bunch more stuff.
Mainly been practicing my digital techniques recently as I always thought that needed the most work at the moment, so here we go.
This is a basic turnaround for my character Chum.

these two right here are just experimentations with different styles in photoshop, first one using a complementary colour scheme and using short, sharp lines in the composition. The other was purely black and white, while just adding a few minor coloured highlights over top.

T-shirt/illustration ideas

So I've had a couple commissions to do designs for t-shirts (I have a couple of my pokemon shirts for sale here http://www.printfection.com/circuitbreakmerch/Mens-wear/_s_514764 ;) ). That piqued my interest into doing designs for shirts, accessories and what not.  Keep in mind, these are purely conceptual at the moment and if anyone were to want a design like that, just message me.

(this is Hello Kitty's anatomy, I'll clean it up and post it soon)

Pen and paper

Here I will be posting straight up ink drawings, be it doodles, sketches, or full on works.

Meadow of Dreams
Here's a piece i worked on for quite a while, and used up quite a few pens. I love using the cross-hatching style, especially for particularly creepy drawings such as this (gives it a sort of demented, chaotic feel). and for the waves I used simple strokes of a brush in India ink. Overall I love how this piece turned out.

Random Giraffe
This was actually just a random doodle at work in my little notebook. Funtimes all around.

Meatballs
A couple of sphere-like monsters, getting used to giving my work actual dimensions, as shown by the different angles of the other creatures in the background

Heap
A piece based off of one of my favourite movies; Tetsuo the Iron Man.  I tried to put in a lot of detail here, as this is essentially a chaotic living pile of scrap metal and flesh.

Pokemon...My Style

As some of you may know, I have a soft spot for almost everything Pokemon, so I decided to make another project for myself, do a rendition of the first 151 pokemon.

#10, 11, 12 Caterpie, Metapod, and Butterfree
Decided to go with a more alien like route with these lil bugs

#25 Pikachu
Everyone's favourite electric mouse, PIKACHU.

#35, 36 Clefairy and Clefable
Here's a horrifying rendition of the cute little fairy pokemon

#52 Meowth
Cute little kitty cat inspired by American Mcgee

#74,75,76 Geodude, Graveller, and Golem
The evolutionary triad of rock types.

#88+89 Grimer and Muk
The big ol' pile of sludge. Guest starring Pikachu and Ash from the show

#97 Hypno
Easily one of the creepiest pokemon I know, I just added details

#109 Koffing
My personal favourite pokemon, Koffing the happy gassy tumor

#129, 130 Magikarp and Gyarados
The almighty gyarados with a school of magikarps

Random Workings

So here I will post all my random drawings, paintings, digital stuff.

Seeing as how it has been a long time since I worked on a watercolour, I decided that its about time.  I'm likely going to do more paintings to get the hang of it, but this one turned out rather well, in my opinion.

And here are a pair of ink drawings done at work.

Illustration Friday: Sight

So for this one, I've decided to submit 2 portraits; one Sight, and the other Sightless.
I'm actually working on making a portrait everyday for the rest of this month (check 'my daily works' for all of them so far).  These particular felt-tipped pen pieces were done under a heavy time constraint, as I only had a chance to work on them during my 45 minute lunch breaks at work.  But alas, I did what had to be done.

My Daily Works

I've made a goal starting today to make a portrait of anyone/anything for the rest of the month, who knows, maybe even longer :)

Day 1: Popcorn the Amorphous Thing
So for this day I basically sketched out the first thing that came to mind this morning; a strange bumpy alien like thing.  Purely used the charcoal stick .  Started with a quick outline here and the disgruntled face, almost showing a disparity.

Here i did some detail work on the face adding a bit more shading to his bumps.

For the final product, I darkened the circles around his eyes to show that they are sunken in.  I added more tumorous growths on the head, and completed the detailing.  All in all I really enjoyed this, and I'm excited to start another piece.

Day 2: The Best Representation of Myself
This day I decided to do a self portrait, so I took a picture of myself when I woke up and just draw how I felt afterwards. (i know it's a dark photo)

I wanted to point out my half-hearted 'smile' so I made is as a grotesque Joker-like scar (which works cuz I have my share of facial scars from martial arts training).  I also wanted to emphasize my large, globular eyes. Another really fun piece, I'm enjoying this project so far!

Day 3: Mutha's Day
This one was just a fun little piece I did, for the special day celebrating our matriarchs.

Day 4: Roswell
For this day I decided to mix it up with a quick little digital painting.  I basically made my interpretation of the  traditional 'Grey Alien'.  Simple photoshop painting and got a chance to work on the planets again.

Day 5+6: Smirk
This one was done all with one pen and man did it feel long (Took approximately 8 hours total).  Unfortunately I didn't get to work on many more drawings due to work and doing research for my game, so this one counts as the other one I missed.

There was alot of detail put into the exposed muscular structure of our model here.  Spent alot of time on it and I personally am really proud of it

Day 7: Sight (illustration friday as well)
Another pen drawing based on the word "sight".  I wanted to accentuate the eyes for obvious reasoning.  This was a little test for me as I wanted to see what I can make in a >45 minute time period as I only had a chance to do this on my lunch break at work.  I think it turned out well considering.

Day 8: Sightless
This one is another portrait done at work, so I had a rough time constraint.  Quick and fun.

Day 9: Stressed
After having a rather anxious night this Victoria day, I thought that rather than let the stress take over me, I'll use it to my advantage.  I listened to some crazy music ('Unexpect' check 'em out) and made a very aggressive charcoal piece.

Day 10- Koffing
Here I did my favourite Pokemon, KOFFING!  For those who aren't familiar, Koffing is essentially a floating toxic-gaseous tumor with a big smile on its face.
(original pic)

(my interpretation, similar no?)

So to make this, I simply sketched it in ink, scanned it, and then coloured it in photoshop.

Day 11- ロボット (Robotto)
Much along the same lines of what I did with Day 10, I used ink and photoshop to colour.  Had to do most of this at work.

Day 12- Hypno (more Pokemon)
Maybe I should consider doing a pokemon series. Hypno was creepy to start with, I just added a couple details.

Day 13+14 Suspicion
Unfortunately due to work and lack of supplies at work, I missed a day, but made up for it by making this shady lil' fella.  Done with a HB pencil

Day 15 Muk and Grimers
My last Pokemon post for the month.  Alot of people requested I do this as a series, so I'm breaking the ice.
So here are my little sentient puddles of sludge

Day 16 Swamp Thing
An older ink sketch I did, thought it could use some colour so I  touched it up digitally.

Day 17- Fear
My last piece of this May series. And this one sure crept me out. Just thought "I think I wanna make something freaky today" so I did.

Illustration Friday: Puzzled

Digital drawing for the word 'puzzled', had lots of fun with this one!  Learned how to make planets from a fellow student!  I think it turned out quite well!

Puzzled- Illustration Friday

Illustration Friday: Vocal

For the word vocal, I wanted to do something visceral, something fierce, so what's the first thing that comes to mind?  Screaming flesh-eating ghouls of course!!

Here I worked alot on shading and lighting, still practicing, but I'm improving.  For both shading and lighting, I used multiple layers and gaussian blurs for the different values.  I really enjoyed making this, more digital stuff along the way.
