Illustration Friday: Shade- Double Feature

For Shade, I decided to make two illustrations.  One graphite + pencil crayons, the other being watercolour.
The first one I did was watercolour, and i wanted to be a bit more stylized with this one.  I first used a layer of pure water on the paper to give it a more fluid look to it, the added water does add to a watery feel.  I essentially used a variety of wet and dry brush techniques and speckling on here.

The second illustration was a quick pencil drawing of an apocalyptic fiendish creature.  Simple pencil and smudging for the teeth and gums, and for the reflection in the goggles was just pencil crayon and some kneadable eraser to add a shine.

Illustration Friday: Yield

For the word 'yield', I simply thought of a bus stop of all things.  I wanted to make a rather creepy looking fellow, lets just call him 'Chester'.  A man from the middle of nowhere who just waits for the bus no matter what.  I started with a basic pencil drawing, but I felt I wanted to broaden my horizons and practice my watercolour skills.
I decidedly chose a monochromatic styling to give off a cold, almost dank atmosphere.
I also added yellow for the eyes to show that Chester could be otherwordly.

Illustration Friday: Intention

For this past Illustration Friday, I was given the word 'Intention'.  Unfortunately at the time, my camera was broken so I was unable to take pictures of the process.
So here I wanted to describe the process of reaching a goal, trying to reach the tip of the ladder for success.  The ghost-like figures are the adversities that one would face when trying to reach said goal, holding you back from your primary intention.

I made the right hand kind of transparent and incomplete in a way just to represent the process of completion.

Digital Menagerie

Here is just a variety of digital drawings that I have either done just for fun or for conceptual sketches.

All of these have been created in photoshop on a tablet so I can practice and hone my digital skills.

Illustration Friday: Capable- Tiny Tim

For this past Illustration Friday. I was given the word, Capable.  It took a while for me to come with a solid idea, but then I thought of  one being capable of anything; so i made an imaginative young lad who truly believes he can be a superhero.

This was a quick sketch done in a regular pen as I was away without any of my art supplies at the time.

I went over the sketch in a higher quality ink pen here. And I also went over the shadow with an ink brush.

Here I added creaky floorboards, boarded up walls; just a dank looking place.  This was to show that despite the little guy living in a nasty lifestyle, his positive attitude and imagination leads him to greatness

Illustration Friday:Forward- Progressive Thinking

This piece is based off of the word 'Forward'.  Oddly enough, it didn't take much time for me to think of a Mad Max like character (named Ed) duct-taping a gigantic monster of a weapon to a dinosaur like creature.
I thought the picture turned out great, but it needed a little bit of colour.  I decided that I'll just do a  little red on Ed to make him stand out more.  There's something about adding a splash of red to a black and white picture or graphite drawing that just looks good in my eyes.

Misadventures in Mohawk

Here is a little comic I had to do for my Image and Inspiration class about the first day of college.  Not much to say other than I had to beat up hordes of vampyric monsters with my class-mates.
